LIVE Music Festival – “I don’t need you to put me in a box”

From 29th-31st of August I attended the LIVE Music Festival in my city of Exeter in the UK, which celebrated the 50th year anniversary of the Guildhall Shopping Centre, in the city centre, which is where the event took place in Market Square.

What I love about my city, is its rich culture, where diversity and inclusion are part of the norm and are celebrated and accepted.

I filmed the majority of the 3 days of tribute acts at the event and they proved very popular on my Asexualise My Asexual Life channel, which I have put into 3 playlists to share with you – depending on what your viewing preferences are.

Tribute acts to the following artists were included:

  • Kylie
  • Pink
  • Gwen Stefani
  • Madonna
  • Shania Twain
  • Taylor Swift
  • Olly Murs
  • Disney Princesses
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Gary Barlow
  • Michael Buble

And more!

I love the diversity of the acts included!

In a 2017 article, here https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/pink-sexuality_n_59e20855e4b04d1d518216b9 Pink says of her sexuality:

“I don’t need you to put me in a box”

I think as asexuals this is an important thing to remember, that no one should be putting us into a box – no one should be putting you into a box and making you believe you are something you are not. You deserve love and happiness on your own terms. This world might have been designed more for heteronormative heterosexual relationships – but the world needs our difference, because it’s diversity, nuance and difference, that adds to the quality of life and makes it more interesting, not takes anything away from it – remember that!

Remember this quote from Sandra Bellamy – yep! That’s me, aka Asexualise:

“Your difference is your beauty.”

And beauty should never be boxed up or caged in, it should be free to shine it’s light for all to see 😍 So keep shining your asexual light! Including at music festivals 😉

This playlist shows the Shorts videos for the event!

This playlist has all the recordings of the Live Streams I did,

This final playlist shows all videos, both Shorts and Live Streams from the event put together in one place, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQW3R61XE60k

I got on well with the festival crew – who could see I was filming over the entire 3 days, particularly one of the stage team called Frank and their official photographer from Spiller’s Photography, who told me he has also filmed some Pride events, after I told him my channel’s name and that I am asexual in sexual orientation – I love how accepting the crew were of my asexuality and I appreciated the diverse tribute acts.

I even got asked by Frank to have my photo taken on stage, which he captured on my phone and the official photographer photographed at the time too – as a best-selling author and award-winning speaker, I felt right at home on that stage! See the photos above!

While I was live streaming the LIVE Music Festival, someone came in chat and said you can’t be asexual if you date, to which I of course responded you can. Someone came in chat and said asexual means you don’t like sexual attraction, when they should have said you lack sexual attraction – which I corrected them on and I said I still experience romantic and aesthetic attraction!

Here

I hate it when people make assumptions that if you are not having sex, you can’t have a relationship – as sex is not the same as love and there are so many other forms of intimacy!

Until next time, stay ace.

Sandra xx
